Day-Tripping with the Parentals

This was a treat - a day trip with my parental units!

We visited Port Perry, about an hour and a half north east of Toronto, on the shores of the shallow Lake Scugog. We took a two-hour cruise (they actually had the Gilligan's Island theme music as background music!). We shopped, as the mainstreet is very conducive to this sort of behaviour. I bought a silver ring (I love the bobbles), and a single-wound beaded bracelet, which was about $12. Not much more than I would have spent to make it.

We came home through the sideroads in the low-afternoon light: magic hour.

Lovely Ladies

Currently appearing at Jet Fuel Coffee Shop at 519 Parliament...

A delicious exhibition of photographs entitled "The Garden of Earthy Delights." The excellent Toronto photographer, Chris Hutcheson, has captured a range of Burlesque performers, and what earthy delights they are. I think what makes this exhibition so special is that they are all captured live in performance, with that thrill of excitement and danger that goes along with all that. I loved it. Among the subjects is Miss Nude Universe 1975 (still got "It"). My favourite, amongst several, was titled "Waiting." If you visit it, please let me know in your comments what your favourite was.

And look here! This might be worth catching too.

Hey Reader

Yes, I do work in arts administration, and, no, I'm not a particular fan of Ryan Gosling. But, put those two together and you have my favourite Tumblr. Okay, I'm not even sure what Tumblr is, but I know when I need a smile, and these have my cheeks hurting. And if you're not into guys, here's another winsome arts administrator.

And here are three of my favourites - argh, they strike home too brilliantly!

I... think I'm becoming a fan.

Honey and Chocolate, Part Deux

My beautiful big jar of raw honey was slightly crystallized. So I softened it in a panful of hot water. Googling the problem, to ensure I was remembering the solution correctly, turned up a wit:

Q: How do I soften old honey?
A: I buy her bottles of skin lotion regularly.

Quote of the Day

"Who's hot tonight... Strindberg's hot tonight!"

(Helium in Absinthe and Women, one of the small masterpieces by those crazy kids over at Killing my Lobster and Milky Elephant.)

And by the way... the new Strindberg and Helium episode is... GULP... almost here! I can't take the suspense!

Q: Tibby, what do you call a cat who eats a whole duck?

A: A duck-filled fatty puss!
