Cottage Bouquet

When we arrived at the cottage this year, a lovely bouquet of wild flowers greeted us. Thanks S and S!

As the light shifted swiftly in the late afternoon, I lost myself in taking photographs. The closer I got, the more magical it was. I was lost in detail... in a good way!

Recent Pics

Rather like this sweet corgi, I enjoyed having things on my head. The green hat was for a fantastic Havana-inspired "Lime and Linen" party. So many lovely things to look at and eat. Again, like Diner en Blanc, if you give people a colour direction, it makes for some amazing visuals. I had to buy the boater for this summer as it looks saucy and was on sale for $11!

My 'hood is getting better each day. So much construction is driving us all slightly nuts, but it'll be amazing when Front Street is resurfaced and the recent condos are done.

I dulled the drilling noises with flowers.

A fabulous woman knitted me socks for my birthday!

A local wine shop showed some wit.

Diner en Blanc

My camera and I were once again not great friends on the evening of Diner en Blanc, so there aren't a lot of pics, but it was a fun evening. This was last year, where I describe how it all works. This year, 1600 people gathered for a night of good food, great company and gorgeous white outfits.

I approached Rene Falcon of Urban Hats and she made me a lovely fascinator for the evening. It's light and voluminous. Rene is a charming woman who is often to be found in the St. Lawrence Market with her glamorous hats, fascinators and cocktail hats. Need a special event piece? I recommend Rene!

Bright Evening full of Promise

I finished a 14-hour work day last Friday, and now the recent super busyness is slowing. Now I can revel in these long, light evenings. Tonight I was at home and it felt so good. Django Reinhardt was my soundtrack. White daisies brought even more light in. Lemon poundcake perfumed my home. The cake is for work tomorrow. My treat was to lick the new red spatula.

(The old one was retired a couple of months back when a bit of it broke off into the batter I was stirring! The new one is shown with the freshly whipped butter and sugar. There are few more promising beginnings than butter and sugar together, except of course my favourite: onions softening in butter. My mouth just watered.)

Cherry Blossoms

Every year they're taller. This year, spring was late. But I had a sense when I should visit this little knoll on Cherry Street. We got there when the blossoms were at their fullest, fattest, whitest, most glorious. As you can see, the branches were thick with them, as though they were bursting with blossoms. I couldn't bear to leave. There were so many good pictures, and these are just a few.

After a return of blustery weather, it was three days before I went back and they were all gone. Chilly nights have returned, and yesterday morning on my way to work I wore a winter coat! But next week's forecast calls for warmer days. Hopefully... just in time for June.

Come on Eileen

A pretty, hand-painted vase from last birthday (thanks M!) and daisies. That and some great 80s music... a wonderful way to wind down the weekend, just in time to get to work early tomorrow to solve some problems there. Wahhh!

Colours

Summer is still with us, but with those signs that it hasn't long to go. Still-hot days give in to cooler nights, and I have turned my mind to warm-weather food and clothes.

But just now, still, I am in love with the sun and heat and colour all around me. I wear turquoise and eat curry tofu, or salmon, and lots of tomatoes. I walk past Cirque du Soleil's big top on my way to Cherry Beach. And there are always flowers, some out, some in.

I'm lake bound again for another week, starting tomorrow morning. But I worked late tonight and I haven't started packing. My brain is already on vacation and can't make a decision. It's a good dilemma.

They Make me Happy

Sobeys had some great flower options this week. I bought this big bouquet of daisies, with gorgeous green centres.

With the little trimmings for the bedside table...
