Almost There

Last night I relaxed. Seriously. The tightly bunched fresias I'd picked up hurriedly during the week had opened, their blossoms far more numerous than I had anticipated, and with their opening that sweet, peppery scent that is one of my favourites. I cocooned beside them under my wooly blanket... what bliss.

This morning I lolled some more, in anticipation of my week off work. But... I still have some work to do today and tomorrow and then... off. I can't wait. I'm not going away, instead there will be lots of play, including planning for the Big Cake Project and making cupcakes for a sweet lady's baby shower.

And... there will be books that I have had no time to read of late. Lots of books.

So Much to Catch up on

... will blog again this weekend. In the meantime, one cake plan didn't pan out. So we have another and I'm so excited about it! Watch this space!

Bill Cunningham

Very interested to read this review of Bill Cunningham New York, which I watched back in August of last year. It's tickled my interest to see it again.

The World's Most Beautiful Bookstores

Check them out. All stunning, but I fancy myself sitting in that big chair in Shakespeare & Company, in Paris.

Thanks to my dad for sending me the link!

Need a Smile?

If you need a smile, here's one. I started beaming at 0:04. But I burst out laughing at 0:26.

So, Guess who I ran into at the Opera?

Yes, it's that time again! J and L were at the opera and what did we discuss? This year's Big Cake Project. Except... it's probably not a cake, per se.

Watch this space. Heh heh. If this post is making no sense, read here for 2011's Big Cake Project, here for 2010, here for 2008, here for 2007 and here for all cake decorating fun and games.

Hey Reader

Yes, I do work in arts administration, and, no, I'm not a particular fan of Ryan Gosling. But, put those two together and you have my favourite Tumblr. Okay, I'm not even sure what Tumblr is, but I know when I need a smile, and these have my cheeks hurting. And if you're not into guys, here's another winsome arts administrator.

And here are three of my favourites - argh, they strike home too brilliantly!

I... think I'm becoming a fan.

Trees, do you Need a Hug?

I would love nothing more right now than to wrap my arms around a big tree and hug it. As readers of my blog know, I am a shameless tree hugger; indeed I have been accused of being a tree molester, but no, my love is very respectful. But I am city bound as I sit here at work, and feeling disconcerted as I hear from friends further afield that bulbs are peeking up above the ground. It's February 7!

As Europe is gripped in an unlikely freeze, we here in central-eastern Canada are having a very mild time of it. It maybe be La NiƱa or global warming, or just one of those things, but it has been an amazingly mild winter, and - of late - so sunny! I'm relieved, I have to say, but greater than my relief is my fear for those shooting bulbs that are likely to be blasted by a few more deep freezes, and the earth that will likely be very dry this spring, as we've had so little precipitation. What will it mean for all our crops this year? What about the water tables? I don't know much about these sort of things, but I'm feeling a little worried for my plant friends. Trees, do you need a hug? I'm coming!

It Stinks

I prepare almost everything I eat from scratch. But... sometimes I make a sandwich using a well-marketed new deli-meat.

Your labelling was very misleading, Maple Leaf, and I won't buy your products again.

Snow Fell at Last

My view, miniaturized.
