Quote of the Day

"It was a wet evening in Paris. On the slate roofs of the big boulevards and on the small mansards of the Latin quarter, the rain kept up a ceaseless patter. Outside the Crillon and the George V, the doormen were whistling taxis out of the darkness, then running with umbrellas to hold over the fur-clad guests at they climbed in. The huge open space of the place de la Concorde was glimmering black and silver in the downpour."

The opening paragraph of Devil May Care, the new James Bond n0vel by Sebastian Faulks writing as Ian Fleming (I've just read the first chapter and that's an important distinction).

Interesting credit--"Sebastian Faulks writing as Ian Fleming". Didn't the previous post-Fleming Bond authors (John Gardner, Kingsley Amis, that that other guy I can't remember) at least write under their own names?

May I suggest a slight change? The single malt remains but for an alternate title, try Bad Monkeys by Matt Ruff.

(Ruff's Bad Monkeys web site is a hoot.)

Have you tried Highland Park?

That'd be interesting reading a book with someone writing as someone else. Does he just ape the style, or come up with something fresh?

Hmm. Sounds like how I do my evenings in Paris! ;)

Great suggestions everyone!

As for the book, he is definitely writing AS Ian Fleming, as an homage I guess. It's an interesting premise and so far it's really working.
