Quote of the Day

“They both had a good wide rump and slope from hooks to pins, but what carried it was the udder.”

Timothy Bentinck as David Archer in The Archers, (May 13, 2008)... Britain’s rurally-set, radio soap opera, on air since 1951.

UPDATED: with correct terminology courtesy of Cattle Judge. Tanks mon.

It is actually "from the hooks to the pins. He is describing the hind end of a cow, the hooks are the pelvis bone and the pins are the bones at the tail head...Hope this doesn't blow your quote of the day.....lol

Oh! I've not had a cattle judge comment on my blog before. Not that I know of anyway. Thank you for the insight... I listened to the podcast a few times trying to get it right. :)

Leave it to a cattle judge, huh! :)

Vertigo sounds awful! I've never had it before. But...I did still feel the cruise ship swaying even today when I close my eyes! Weird!

Goodness gracious - you've transported me back to Devon and my childhood. Treacle pudding (I always keep a tin of Tate & Lyle's Golden Syrup on hand, now I must use it up (will try your recipe)as I have the authentic English pudding bowl too!! This was a Sunday dinner treat - my mum made a marvelous pud. Steamed puddings and sponges were probably why we were rather chubby English girls!!

The ARCHERS - my all time favorite radio program growing up, making me wanting to live on a muddy Devon farm, ride ponies and collect the fresh eggs! Of course I never did, but had a best friend who married a farmer, have enjoyed visiting their stone cottage complete with milking barn and rolling hills. That IS the life!

Thanks for the memories - and the kind comments on my garden.

Mary.

Mary, I was pony mad, am now steamed pudding mad - so many lovely things in life - how lucky we are to have had them, to have them, or just be able to long for them.

As for all of you - as I can't meet you at the Bull tonight for a pint of Guinness, we'll have a couple of pints here in your honour. :)

Helena, my bear Elgy is readying himself for a photo shoot. I really think Bob is an inspiration to bears everywhere to express themselves more fully.

There are times doing the Archers when we have not the slightest idea what we're talking about and have to rely on the researchers for accuracy. Thanks Cattle Judge for putting us right!

Mr. B - it is more likely that I transcribed it wrongly as I listened. :)

And if you are Mr. B - hooray! And if you aren't... sigh. I'm such a fan!

Blimey - Tim Bentinck left a comment! Of course to give the impression that it's just about cows would be false - after all there is the rather nifty racism, vicar marrying Hindu girlfriend story right now. Yes I too am a fan. It runs in the family. And it's also the moment my husband realised very early in our relationship that I wasn't quite as cool as I first appeared...

Eliane - oh I think you're very cool! :)
